The Path to The Trail

Come enjoy the Walking Trail and see the beauty of the grounds.  Whether you are out for a leisurely stroll or out on an exercise regime, the trail is for you.  The wide paved trail was designed to easily accommodate wheelchairs.  The trail map shows the distance.

The trail begins at the corner of the TreeHouse.  As you reach the first fork in the path turn left and follow the trail over the bridge to view the commemorative bricks at the arbor.  As you recross the bridge and veer left, you will notice beautiful wildflowers growing in the springtime dividing the trail.  The path will take you past the Marjolein Bastin Garden behind TreeHouse and towards the Infant Memorial.  As you venture along the trail, you will see several trees, benches and landscaped areas in memory or honor of loved ones.  The trail will fork and you can choose to take the path that leads down to the roundabout or the shorter trail that leads up to the sidewalk by the hospital.  By following the trail to the roundabout you will have traveled 7/10 of a mile, the shorter route to the sidewalk is a distance of 6/10 of a mile.  These distances and areas of the trail are marked on the brochuremap.

Garnett M. Peters III Arbor at Trail Head

At the northern most end of the Walking Trail, amid flowering trees and perennial gardens, is a beautiful garden arbor. Under the arbor is a path constructed of bricks that may be inscribed in honor or in memory of friends and family.

These bricks may be purchased singly or in groups. This is a wonderful way to honor someone, memorialize someone or even pay homage to your family tree. Bricks are $100 for the first brick and $50 for each additional brick. Please contact the Foundation office to order your brick.

Planting a Tree

As you stroll the trail you will see trees with a bronze plaque near their trunk. These trees have been planted as an honorary or memorial tree.  Please contact the Foundation Office at 816-792-7014 for information on planting a tree.
Infant Memorial

The infant memorial is located near a grove of trees that provides quiet and solitude. This area can be used by parents and family members as a memorial. If desired the Liberty Hospital Chaplain can accompany the family to the
memorial.
